WILMINGTON, Del.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 3, 2005--Betsy Z. Cohen, a
founder and the Chief Executive Officer of The Bancorp, Inc. (Nasdaq
NM:TBBK), is among the top women in the banking industry to be
recognized as 25 Women to Watch in the October 2005 issue of U.S.
Banker magazine. The prestigious list will be published as part of the
magazine's third-annual ranking of the 25 Most Powerful Women in
Banking.
What differentiates USB's ranking from others is its focus on
influence, notably how each honoree uses her influence to advance an
institution's performance for shareholders and to more closely tie
that organization to the communities in which it conducts business.
Holly Sraeel, Editorial Director of U.S. Banker, said that 5,070 women
were reviewed by the magazine's staff to determine the 50 most
influential honorees of 2005. "The ranking's intent is to identify the
progressive leadership and professional achievements of the banking
industry's top women executives, focusing on how they use their
influence internally and externally to derive better results," she
said. "It considers each individual's three-year financial
performance, job complexity, tenure in business, management style,
charitable work, and community ties. The 50 chosen honorees personify
integrity, business acumen and a commitment to excellence."
Events celebrating the honorees will culminate in a Black Tie gala
at The New York Palace on October 20, 2005.
Cohen co-founded The Bancorp, Inc., a financial holding company
that operates The Bancorp Bank, shortly after selling Jefferson Bank,
the bank she founded in 1974 and ran for 26 years. Upon its sale,
Jefferson was Philadelphia's largest locally-based financial
institution, best known for its commercial lending and services to
small to mid-sized business customers in the greater
Philadelphia-Wilmington region. While The Bancorp, Inc. continues to
serve these markets, it differentiates itself from other internet
retail banks and large traditional banks by exclusively providing
private label banking services - including Health Savings Accounts -
electronically to about 100 affinity groups and organizations. In the
five years since its founding, The Bancorp has achieved total assets
of $737 million.
